[...] Update/Spoiler: Toward the end of the episode, when Mohammed finally appears on “Family Guy,” a black screen comes up for ten seconds explaining that Comedy Central refuses to show an image of Mohammed. I thought this was a gag and a swipe at the network, since Parker and Stone are likely still angry that last season’s Scientology episode was pulled during reruns. (Another whack at Comedy Central came during the promo for part two, which promised us that the would be continued unless the network “pusses out.”) However, James Joyner and Michelle Malkin point out that the censorship I took to be yet more satire in the second half of the episode is in fact real censorship by the network, which is equal parts irony and atrocity.
Years ago (2000?) South Park featured a parody of the Super friends cartoon. Its members were all religious figures--including Mohammed. There was no fuss then and to my knowledge, the episode is part of the syndication package aired across the country. Does Comedy Central really expect a fatwa to be issued at this point?
