Halle Berry Tired of Superhero Roles

Halle Berry wants to hang up her superhero costume.

bAfter playing Storm in three “X-Men” movies and the title role in 2004′s “Catwoman,” the 39-year-old actress says: “I think I’m done. I’m fresh out of superheroes at this point.” Berry was in Mexico City Monday for a screening of her new film, “X-Men: The Last Stand,” which opens May 26. The movie is the third in a series based on the X-Men comic books about mutant superheroes and villains whose special abilities make them feared by the world’s human majority.

Berry said she wanted to depict a strong woman in her portrayal of Storm, who has the ability to control the weather. The actress said she fought to keep faithful to the comic book version of Storm, which she felt was stronger and more interesting than in the original screenplay. “If I’m only on camera for five minutes, that’s fine, but let it be five meaningful minutes,” said Berry, who won an Oscar for 2001′s “Monster’s Ball.” “It’s not fun to play a woman that does nothing.”

She’s been complaining for a while.

Halle Berry will have a bigger part in X-Men 3, as she has complained that Storm did nothing more than drive the plane in the first two films, according to Ananova. “I suffered through the two movies where die-hard fans would come up to me and say, ‘How come you let them make Storm wimp out all the time?’” the 39-year-old star told V-Life.

“As if I have any control. Last time I asked them to let Storm do something more than drive the plane, and she drove the plane. Storm is a formidable fighter in the comic books; she has a cape and can fly. I’ve never flown anywhere in two movies except behind the wheel of that plane. I’d hate to not be part of the final film, but I won’t spend five months standing around, even though we all stand to get paid a lot of money this time.”

“X3″ co-writer Zak Penn promised that Halle won’t be disappointed this time. “As one of the writers of the last film, I’d say it’s true she ended up with mostly exposition and plane-flying. There was a whole sequence at the beginning of the last film that showed the origins of her character in Africa, and it got cut simply because there are 14 characters to service. But X3 has a couple of big twists, and Storm is right in the centre of them. The fact that Halle is a very good actress who was underused compounds the wish for her to have a better role.” said Penn.

A damned shame, getting paid a lot of money for very little work.
