Penelope Cruz gets rave reviews for ‘Volver’

PENELOPE CRUZ once again joins forces with acclaimed director PEDRO ALMODÓVAR on the upcoming ‘Volver.’
It is the duo’s third collaboration and the first since 1999’s ‘All About My Mother,’ which earned an Oscar.
In ‘Volver’ (meaning ‘Coming Back’), Cruz plays Raimunda, who lives in Spain with her teenage daughter (YOHANA COBO) and is married to an unemployed laborer. But things get complicated when Raimunda’s mother (CARMEN MAURA), who died in a fire, begins to appear and can be seen by Raimunda’s hairdresser sister Sole (LOLA DUEÑAS).
What follows is a series of comedic events coupled with deep emotions as the living and the dead work to co-exist.
But Cruz isn’t the only one who is reuniting with Almodóvar. Dueñas appeared in the filmmaker’s 2002 hit ‘Talk to Her,’ while Maura is an Almodóvar veteran, having starred in the director’s ‘Pepi, Luci, Bom,’ ‘Dark Habits,’ ‘Matador,’ ‘Law of Desire,’ ‘What Have I Done to Deserve This?!’ and the international smash ‘Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.’
In addition to ‘Volver,’ due in theaters November 3, Cruz will also soon be seen in ‘The Good Night’ with Gwyneth Paltrow and ‘Manolete’ opposite Adrien Brody. [The Insider]
