Britney Spears – Basically a Much Ado About Nothing

There’s been talk about Britney Spears near death on New Years Eve… the passing out and such. Then there was talk about how she was headed for rehab. To mix things up even more, there was talk about her label dropping her. Basically, it appears to be a much ado about nothing.

After falling asleep (or, according to some reports, possibly passing out) at a New Year’s Eve bash in Las Vegas, Britney Spears reportedly checked in to an Arizona spa for some good ol’ fashioned R&R on New Year’s Day. But some are wondering if a third “R” might be in the pop star’s future — could Brit be headed to rehab?

According to Life & Style Weekly, who reported Brit checked into an Arizona spa called Sanctuary, the singer’s parents are urging their daughter to enter therapy.

“It’s just been heartbreaking for her parents to watch Britney on this downward spiral,” a Spears “insider” reportedly told the magazine. “It’s so sad.”

And while Brit’s manager defends the New Year’s Eve incident, saying it was “nothing out of the ordinary… She was not drunk. She was just tired and falling asleep,” this might be the first of many falls for the pop star in 2007, according to Page Six’s Cindy Adams.

Britney has been working on tracks for her new album at Jive Records’ recording studio in New York, but according to Adams, there is talk within the label that the new tunes just aren’t cutting it – and neither is Brit.

Jive reportedly fears Britney’s misbehavior is alienating her fan base. Jive targets the young music fans and Brit’s drinking and partying (with or without her underwear) aren’t exactly hitting high notes with label execs, Adams says.

Unfortunately for Britney, the criticism doesn’t end there. Recording on her new album has been put on hiatus because the five tracks delivered so far were so bad, Jive isn’t sure how to proceed, Adams reports.

However, Jive Records had a very different take on Adams’ claims.

A rep for Jive released the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“No rehab, and Cindy Adams’ piece is inaccurate. No clue where she go her ‘information.’ Britney is in the middle of recording. We will have an album in 2007.”

Feeling dizzy yet? Now… if we can just get Britney to fork over the cash for a new wig. That weave should have found the “Big Green Can” long, long ago.
