Ty Pennington Arrested for Drunken Driving

Ty Pennington joins the list of celebrity drunk drivers.

Ty Pennington Drunk Driving Photo Ty Pennington, the host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, was arrested over the weekend in Los Angeles for allegedly driving drunk, police say. Pennington, 42, was arrested at 12:35 a.m. Saturday by West Los Angeles traffic officers. He was booked at the county jail on a misdemeanor and released at 2:50 a.m. on $5,000 bail. A court date was set for June 4.

“I made an error in judgment,” Pennington said in a statement. “We all make mistakes; however, this is about accountability. Under no circumstances should anyone consume alcohol while driving. I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone. This was my wake-up call.”

He added: “I also want to apologize to my fans, ABC Television and my design team for my lapse in judgment and the embarrassment I have caused.”

Pennington, a carpenter and former model, appeared on Trading Spaces on TLC for four years before hosting ABC’s Emmy-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. He also is a bestselling author with a promotional deal with Sears.

Surely, he could afford to hire a driver? Or take a cab?

As I noted in response to charges that Paris Hilton’s 45 day sentence was “unfair,” these people follow the advice of her hard-partying predecessor Joe Walsh:

    My Maserati does one-eighty-five
I lost my license, now I don’t drive
I have a limo, ride in the back
I lock the doors in case I’m attacked

Other reax:

  • Joy at Pop on the Top: [H]ow come the cops seem to be so good at catching celebs under the influence?! It’s like LA has a separate task force for the intoxicated.”
  • Defamer thinks it’s funny Ty apologized to his design team.
  • Dlisted: “The Celebrity DUI club was gaining members! I’m sure we’ll break 100 by the end of the year!”
  • TV Squad‘s Bob Sassone: “Hopefully he doesn’t build those houses in the same condition.”
  • Superficial: “[T]oo bad he wasn’t arrested for getting karate kicked in the throat.”
