Arizona Man Arrested in Tom Cruise Blackmail Plot

An Arizona man, David Hans Schmidt, known for giving the public compromising celebrity photos has been arrested after an alleged shakedown plot against Tom Cruise.
The actor’s lawyer, Bertram Fields, alleges the 47-year-old Hans Schmidt demanded more than one million dollars to not publish stolen photographs from the actor’s 2006 wedding to Katie Holmes in Italy.
An F-B-I spokeswoman confirms Schmidt was arrested by federal agents Tuesday, but says the criminal complaint charging him is under seal by a federal court.
The U-S Attorney’s office in Los Angeles reports a judge set bond at 100-thousand dollars. An inmate data base says Schmit is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles.
Schmidt is trying to auction off Paris Hilton’s diaries, along with photos of her in various stages of undress and other personal effects that had been locked in a Los Angeles-area storage locker until a few months ago.
