Al Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize

Al Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize - PIC

Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, along with the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, for their work to alert the world about the threat of global warming.

quote-pic“[Mr. Gore] is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted.”

Gore said he was deeply honored and plans to donate his half of the prize to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit climate group where he is chairman of the board. In the statement, he said”

quote-pic“We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue; it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity. It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level.”

I wonder if there’s anyone else who has followed up an Oscar win with a Nobel prize – that’s got to be a first.

What others are saying:

  • Mollygood says, “his award seems slightly misguided, as Gore has done relatively little work regarding the ‘abolition or reduction of standing armies,’ but whatever. Global warming!”
  • In Touch says, “If every losing presidential candidate followed up his defeat with so much success, losing may start looking like a good thing.”
  • I’m Bringing Blogging Back says, “As we know by now, Al Gore just won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on Global Warming. In even more breaking news, Lindsay Lohan was just awarded the ‘ImBringingBloggingBack Peace Sign Prize’ for all of the photos taken of her showing the ‘peace sign.’”
  • Best Week Ever says, “Looks like Ed Harris will just have to wait another year.”
