Hugh Laurie Abused Vicodin

Hugh Laurie Abused Vicodin

Hugh Laurie admitted to Radio Times magazine that in order to perfect his character on “House,” he experimented with Vicodin. The pain killer is addictive and his character on the show, Dr. Gregory House, relies on it.

“I wouldn’t recommend it — we have to be careful. But then again … if you’re not in pain it gives a floaty, pleasurable feeling. I’m hugely surprised House survives. The odds are against you in this competitive business; wolves snap at your heels. It’s hard to say if I’m pleased with the show.”

Laurie, a London native, finds his American accent boorish. He prefers being across the pond, but finds he gets a lot of grief for having success in the U.S.

“I avert my eyes when my children have it on. I hate seeing myself, but it’s even worse hearing my American accent … I had no idea I sound so retarded, a dull monotone, full of clunking mistakes. There’s a notion that I’ve sold out. Sold out what exactly? There’s a peculiar British attitude that I took an oath I wouldn’t be successful, and reneged on it.”

Vicodin for “research purposes.” That is genius. Why didn’t I think of that. It’s better than Lindsay Lohan’s excuse for using it to help wash down the vodka and blow.
