Heart’s Nancy Wilson Responds to Sarah ‘Barracuda’ Palin

Thursday afternoon, “Heart” e-mailed out a statement regarding vice-presidential candidate Sarah “Barracuda” Palin‘s use of their similarly monikered song at the Republican National Convention.

“The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission. We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored.”

Kapow! That’s going to leave a mark.

But after McCain finished his speech accepting the GOP’s presidential nomination tonight, Palin joined him on stage, and the song was used again: Heart’s “Barracuda” played as balloons fell.

With that elephant in the room, Heart’s Nancy Wilson felt compelled to personally respond. In a phone interview with EW, she said:

“I think it’s completely unfair to be so misrepresented. I feel completely f—ed over.”

She and sister Ann Wilson then e-mailed the following exclusive statement:

“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”

The Heart-McCain incident isn’t the only example of music-related controversy on this year’s presidential campaign trail. Click here to read Chris Willman‘s report about Barack Obama’s eyebrow-raising use of Brooks & Dunn’s “Only in America” after his nomination-acceptance address last week.

Ha, those has-beens should be delighted that they are getting publicity. Maybe they’ll be able to sell a few albums and use the money to fix their ugly, bloated faces and fat wilted looking bodies.

Whether we like these artists or not, they have a right to protest unauthorized use of their music. Most politicians have a legal background, and if not they have advisors. However, they are such egomaniacs they assume everyone thinks as highly of them as they do.

Caviar – the McCain camp paid for the license to use the song. A little research would have shown to you that this was not an unauthorized use.

Most pols pay a licensing fee for music used in campaigns.

As I wrote earlier, the has-been Wilson sisters should shut up, cash the check and head to the cosmetic surgery clinic ASAP – before the money dries up.

It’s so crazy to see these rich white women get so worked up over such utter non-sense. It’s funny still though, because they always have some whiney, liberal-leaning, communist-loving, criminal-backing,terrorist-protecting, nazi-sympathizer…who gets all bent out of shape when they don’t have things work the way they want them to or feel they should, well get over it. Because that’s just part of life. I mean hey you made your billion dollars to snort crack up your nosrils and hire illegal aliens to work for you,as virtual slaves just because you don’t want to pay an American an honest wage to do the same job, then get mad because someone uses your so-called “precious songs”. Oh boo-hoo, cry me a river, you pompous over-bearing bunch of windbags. These freaks just make everybody sick. Good work America, stand up against these loons from the far-left-nut-fringe- element.
