Sean Avery Gets Suspended for Calling Ex Elisha Cuthbert ‘Sloppy Seconds’

Dallas Stars hockey player Sean Avery has been suspended indefinitely for referring to his ex, 24′s Elisha Cuthbert, as “sloppy seconds.”

Speaking to reporters Tuesday morning after a practice in Calgary, Avery made a public dig at Calgary Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf, who is dating Cuthbert.

“I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada. I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about. Enjoy the game tonight.”

After the National Hockey League suspended him for “inappropriate public comments,” Avery — who served as an intern at Vogue this past year — now has to meet with Commissioner Gary Bettman, who will determine any additional penalty.

A hearing has yet to be scheduled. Stars owner Tom Hicks said in a statement,

“I completely support the league’s decision to suspend Sean Avery. Had the league not have suspended him, the Dallas Stars would have. This organization will not tolerate such behavior, especially from a member of our hockey team. We hold our team to a higher standard and will continue to do so.”

Avery signed a four-year, $15.5 million deal with the Stars last summer. He previously played for the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings before that.
