Wild, Wacky, & True: Six-Year-Old Drives Family Car To School

A six-year-old boy from Wicomico Church, Virginia was in a desperate hurry to get to school after missing the bus on Monday morning.

So much, that he took the family’s 2005 Ford Taurus and off he went.

After taking the car down Route 360, he made more than two 90-degree turns, passed several cars, and then ran off the two-lane road several times before crashing the car a mile-and-a-half from his school.

Police have arrested his mother, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman, and father, and David Eugene Dodson on child endangerment charges. Their son was evaluated at a local hospital for a bump on his head and is said to be doing fine.

The boy said that he learned to drive playing Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam video games.

Northumberland County Sheriff Chuck Wilkins says, “He was very intent on getting to school. When he got out of the car, he started walking to school. He did not want to miss breakfast and PE.”

His mother is being held without bond, while his father was released on a $5,000 bond. His mother was said to be sleeping when the incident occurred. The boy and his four-year-old brother have been placed in protective custody.
