White Stripes to Play Conan’s Last ‘Late Night’ Show

Conan O’Brien and the White Stripes go back a long way. Like that time the tri-colored duo played “Late Night” for a whole week back in 2003.

So with Conan leaving “Late Night” to replace comedy super-villain Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show”, it makes perfect sense for the White Stripes to blitz the show’s farewell episode.

It will be the White Stripes’ first live performance since summer 2007. As if you needed another reason to tune in February 20– it’s Conan’s last episode, people! Conan is a genius.

Looking back at some of the old WS/Conan performances, a few things are clear: this band was on some seriously stratospheric level of cool back in 2003, this version of “Let’s Build a Home” will blow your britches off, and they really need to put another record out soon. The world needs them.

No word yet on which song they’ll play on the show– I’m lobbying for “Ball and Biscuit” because it is amazing and will allow for maximum Jack spazz-age.

In other Stripes news, Meg auctioned one of her “Button to Button” drum sets to help ailing Detroit music scene mainstay Jim Shaw last week.

In other Conan news, fellow genius Norm Macdonald showed up on “Late Night” yesterday and killed.
