Wild, Wacky, & True: Father Shoots Son With BB Gun

In Oregon, Wisconsin, a father shot his 9-year-old son in the butt with a BB gun.

This news would probably have remained under wraps if it weren’t for the son, who wrote about the incident in an essay for school. He wrote about “the painful afternoon my Dad shot me with a BB gun.” This prompted the elementary school teacher to turn over the essay to authorities for investigation.

Prosecutors in the case charged the father on Friday with one felony count of child abuse. The charge could get the father a maximum of six years in prison along with a $10,000 fine.

Apparently, the BB gunshot to the butt was caused by the boy blocking his dad’s view from the TV. Nice. He aimed for the boy’s rear pocket because he thought it would be more padded.

The dad says, “I knew right away it was a stupid thing I did. I told my kids the only way I’m going to touch them is to kiss them, hug them, tickle them. I was not under the influence of anything. It was a very stupid decision.”

He was released Friday, but was ordered not to threaten or take any violent action towards his son, including physical discipline.
