‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ Got Cancelled

If like me you like to sit and home and watch shitty daytime TV then you will probably have watched ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ at some point in your life, if you haven’t then you better do it soon because ABC has announced they are both cancelled.

Both shows are two of the longest running television shows ever but as we all know everything comes to an end eventually and now it is time for the plug to be pulled on both of these soaps. All My Children will aborted in September after spending 41 years on air while One Life to Live will live it’s last life in January 2010 after 43 years on air.

They will be replaced by two completely different type of shows, The Cew which is a food-themed talked show and then The Revolution which is a makeover type of show. ABC released a statement saying:

“While we are excited about our new shows and the shift in our business, I can’t help but recognize how bittersweet the change is. We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days. They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on ‘real life’ takeaways. All My Children and One Life to Live are iconic pieces of television that have made an indelible mark on our culture’s history. Each of the shows has touched millions and millions of viewers and informed the social consciousness. It has been a privilege to work with the extraordinary teams who brought the residents of Pine Valley and Llanview to life each day, and we thank the cast, crew, producers and most especially the fans for their commitment to the shows through their history.”

This means that there will only be four soaps left on air – ‘General Hospital’ on ABC, ‘Days of Our Lives’ on NBC and there is ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ and ‘The Young & The Restless’ both on CBS. Do you think this is a good move or a bad move for television?

Oprah Winfrey has a new network, and the fans are loyal most of the fans watch her right after the soaps on ABC goes off. Why don”t the reps from All My Children and One Life to Live bring the idea to Oprah? Oprah network has to be subscribed to this will generate much money. People will get to keep their jobs and Oprah gets the viewers plus more money. And them ABC bright idea looses money and the viewers.

I think ABC is stupid as heck for canceling both of these. OLTL gets good ratings and while they are in need of better stories and don’t get the best ratings of ABC’s three soaps, it IS getting better ratings than AMC. I just hope another network will pick them up. Make it be one that you have to subscribe to as Keisha said. I wouldn’t mind if they went to OWN since I have that channel already and will for some time.

WHY, WHY, WHY???? This is what keeps sooo many of us sane! In this crazy world, there is always time for ALL MY CHILDREN. Is Pine Valley going to be erased from the earth? I have watched this since it started! P L E A S E DON’T DO THIS!!!!!

I’m really sorry to see both shows go, as I’ve watched them for years. I will not be watching the replacement shows, however. Definitely NOT.

I think this is the stupidest move i’ve ever seen. I have been watching All My Children ever since it came on. That’s all we need is another cooking show. Leave the shows alone. I will never watch the new shows.

I can NOT believe this is happening. These 2 soaps have so many viewers who have been loyal and faithful fans for all these yrs. And, just like that they are going to take 2 of our favorite soaps away? I will NOT be watching the replacement shows nor will a billion other people. What are they gonna do just let us go to watch em one day and they just not be there? No “going away script… nothing. YALL ARE SO WRONG FOR DOING THIS.

I think this totally sucks. I definitely will not be watching the replacement shows. TV really stinks anymore. I’ve been a fan of OLTL and AMC and GH for over 40 years! These ABC TV “executives” who make these horrendous decisions haven’t a clue. They’ve already screwed up primetime viewing. Now they’re messing with daytime viewing too. Pretty soon no one will be watching ABC. Please leave GH alone.

Please keep AMC on the air.. we do not need another talk show nor cooking show.. enough already…AMC is the only good soap left.. since you added new characters lately it has gotten sooooo much better… it is an institution!!! can’t some things stay the same?…ABC will be off at our house after Sept for sure if you cancel this!!!

OMG ~ I would be doing the ugly cry if that was General Hospital being canceled. My heart goes out to the fans of these soaps.
THEY ~ who is they? Is this a male decision?
I think you people are way off base at what we want to see for daytime programming. Good luck with that decision. I won’t be watching your replacements. BAD BAD CHOICE. If it’s all about money, look out for karma!

If you are going to take a soap off the air take General Hospital off. This soap has off the wall story lines continually. I agree with who ever said one thing we don’t need is another talk show. They need to keep these two shows on the air. When they go off there won’t be any reason to watch ABC.

Why can’t they replace some of these stupid “reality” shows instead of daytime staples? I don’t get to watch them often but look forward to it when I get a break!

OMG!! I heard this news today and I was in shock. Not so much about AMC because I do not watch it so much. But OLTL, really people!! Please do not cancel it. I remember when I was little watching OLTL, and “Port Charles” (when it was still on) with my Grandma, talking about Todd, Blair, and young Star. With this show being cancelled many of these actors/actresses may not have jobs.

This can not be happening. Television is gone without these soap staples. Officially over. I am so sad. This is the biggest mistake they could ever even do! I am stunned, and I hope all the soap fans come together and try to stop this insanity!!! The other shows will fail, and there will be a permanent void where those “stories” once were told. ugh. Is this a really big rumor? please?

All of the best shows about real life happenings are being cancelled and replaced by stupid reality shows and meaningless corny sitcoms. Some of this entertainment is ok for those who follow these type shows but the whole world does not enjoy the flirtations with death and farout behavoirs displayed in a majority of replacement shows. What is happening to drama and suspense as it actually relates to peoples daily lives. Too much of the programming already disgusts many viewers. A clean funny show is good for the soul and spirit of everyone. The generation growing up today seems to have no boundaries, no respect and not a lot of future promise. A lot of the “so called” entertainment is making a mockery of responsibility, respect, self esteem, character values and the reality of the ups and downs of actual participation in lifes happenings. I am all for a huge variety of programming but it seems
to be a thing of the past. Get back to a little pride and down to earth programming PLEASE!!!

All My Children and One Life to Live are a part of my everday entertainment and I will be devastated if these are taken off the air only to be replaced with a duplication of topics already aired in magnitude. Enough with the cooking, talk, game, politics and who can eat the most disgusting bugs and varmits, and pull off the dumbest pranks or most disgusting acts. Please keep some of the drama and suspense shows that make television a broad spectrum of entertaiment for people of all ages.

This really sucks do you know how much I look forward to getting home from work at 2pm just so I can watch One Life To Live it is my favorite show ever. Why replace it with a talk show or cooking show there are enough of those shows on the air now. I know I wont be watching them. If you ask me this is the stupidist move you could ever make tv sucks as it is.

HUGE MISTAKE!!!!! That is absolutely the WORST television decision I have heard in a LONG TIME! Instead of trying to make big changes in the shows themselves or how they are presented – they threw in the towel to be “innovative”???? Give me a BREAK! This is a BIG cop out! The fact is that the writing has been sliding a bit for a LONG TIME. NOT to say I have stopped watching mind you. I grew up with Erika Kane!!!! She is slightly older than I, and we had our babies the same year. I am heart stricken.

Come on ABC! Another talk and food show is NOT what we need! Good grief – they are EVERYWHERE! I am SICK TO DEATH of them. I can’t believe you spend all the money to move All My Children out west just to make such a horrid decision like this. How about getting out of the “soap comfort zone” and pushing your writers to be more creative at this point?

I have GREAT respect for the writers – it’s a brutal and grueling business. I am a professional writer too, and I know what it takes to do a show like that. BUT writers after writers that were supposed to “do big things” have simply spun the same old thing time after time and the only thing they probably did was to wind up costing the show more money along with the cost of production. Truly creative writing will come up with GREAT innovative strategies that will revolutionize the soaps and bring viewers in. Not a drastic change in scheduling to put more reality crap on the air.

Whoah! ABC – You are going to lose so many viewers to this – you are sooooo clueless! And more heads will roll next year when ABC realizes how absolutely dead wrong they were because they will LOSE most of their audience. But then it will be too late. Viewers will be gone. Stars will have moved on. Only the sadness will remain. ABC used to be tops in my book, but they just plummeted to last place. Unbelievably bad decision.

This is absolutely insane. These are the best two shows on tv in the daytime for housewives as well as all the fans who tape the shows and watch them at night. ABC is sadly mistaken if they think that anyone will watch the replacement shows. We always make time for our soaps even though we have a million other reality and tv shows to watch at night. Soap fans will not watch any other shows in the daytime. There are so many cooking shows and health and beauty shows on all night long. Why would anyone watch new ones. I dont know what I will do without soaps to watch.

I do not watch much tv any longer, hate the reality shows. So I just hula OLTL and AMC. Now I guess I do not watch any. Thanks alot, now I have more time to garden and work on the house. The ads play on Hula so now will not see any ads except when my Grays comes on. Last show I watch, and not real interested in any new ones coming up.

CINDY A K – Terriffic summation! Watch out ABC, I think you’re cutting off your nose to spite yourself! Now I can view CBS and NBC exclusively!

I am sad that AMC and OLTL are coming to an end. I think ABC will regret their decision when the new talk shows to replace them don’t deliver the ratings ABC will be expecting. If ABC was truly wanting to test the waters for such programing, they could have done it while keeping AMC and OLTL on the air. The heads of ABC could have have shorted the air time for each show to a half an hour. Having AMC and OLTL share a 1 hour time slot. This way they would have both shows to fall back on when their new programing falls flat. Poor planning ABC. Your daytime rating might remain steady for now or get a little bit of a spike while viewers tune into to take in their last glimpes of Pine Valley and Llanview and their many residents, I hope you enjoy it because it won’t last.

I was horrified to hear of the cancellations. The blogs that suggested they be shown on Oprah’s new network are GENIUS! I don’t get the channel, but I sure would subscribe if AMC AND OLTL went there. And I know thousands, hundreds of thousands would do likewise. Anyone know how we can get this idea circulated to the right people?

Unbealiveable, when does the talk show/ reality show madness ends. These shows are what keep coming back to see whats next. These stories are outlets to everyday life stresses. It gives us fanatsy, love and hope. You eguys think a person that is looking for Drama show will do a 360 and want to watch a food & makeover show. hahahaha… seriously well thats 10 hours of ABC time that will be lost to Neworks shopping I guess……STUPID STUPID STUPID….. Oprah HELP US!

This is insane! The soaps are my entertainment too. I can’t believe ABC is going to take off All My Children and One Life to Live. I get so tired of a perfectly good show or soap being cancelled for more of the talk shows or reality shows. We don’t need anymore cooking, talk or reality shows. I am sick of them. Please don’t do this. I will never watch either of the replacement shows. I pray that OWN will pick them up and OWN will have all the soap fans. It was bad enough to lose Guiding Light and now this. I grew up with the soaps, watching them with my grandmother too. What wonderful memories of those times. All ages can relate to the soaps and bridge the communication gap talking about what happened and the cast. Please take something else off the air. I have been very heartbroken ever since I heard about the cancellation on Friday. I look forward to watching them at night after recording them when I don’t get to watch them in the daytime. Please don’t do this!
