Alicia Silverstone wants you to know that she’s a vegetarian, and apparently the best way to do that was to get all naked for the cameras. As for being animal-free, Alicia says,
“Like most people, I wasn’t always a vegetarian, but I’ve always loved animals. If you ever have a chance to meet a cow, pig, turkey, or goat, you will see that they are just as cute and funny as your dogs and cats and that they, too, want to live and feel love. They don’t like pain. Now when I see a steak, it makes me feel sad and sick because right away, I see my dog or the amazing cows I met at a sanctuary. I’ve been vegan for 10 years, and it’s the single-most important and helpful decision I have ever made. Physically, the effect has been amazing. Once I went vegan, I lost the weight I wanted to lose, my nails were stronger, and my skin was glowing. I feel great, and I look better now than I did 11 years ago.”
In addition to the print ad, there’s a video. Lookin’ good, Alicia.

Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck had yet another fight on ‘The View‘, Wednesday morning.
With Rosie tearing up, it was obvious how much her feelings were hurt. Having a different ‘view‘ is ok, but having a difference in ‘morals‘ is not.
I’ll have to go with “Team Rosie” on this one. Even Donald Trumpagrees with me.
Alicia Silverstone, who was scheduled as a guest, made her feelings quite clear by totally dissing Elisabeth. You know that had to be embarrassing!
Rosie first blogged yesterday, that she intended on taking today (Thursday) off, so that she could celebrate Kelli’s 40th birthday, but now it appears she won’t be coming back at all.
Matthew Yglesias points out that, since Scarlett Johannssonn was very pretty at the age of 16, we should not use the term “pedophilia” when referring to Mark Foley’s hitting on boys of a similar age. I actually haven’t done that, so no correction needed.
Still, it does bring up an interesting debate that resurfaces from time to time. There was, for example, a big cross-blog discussion involving Dan Drezner, Atrios, Yglesias, and myself over three years ago on the topic, “Why is it that some celebrities under the age of eighteen can be universally acknowledged as sexy, whereas if that adjective is assigned to other underage but physically mature stars, people start leveling accusations of perversion and lechery?”
Anna Kournikova was a sex symbol very young and yet no one seemed to object to it. Indeed, it was controversial only in that some contended it was improper for her to get so much attention–and money–for her looks while much better but homelier tennis players suffered. Alyssa Milano, Drew Barrymore, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and the Olsen Twins entered the discussion as well. There are probably at least a dozen others that could be easily named.
Further, as I’ve noted many times over the years, it was not that long ago that girls were married and having children in early adolescence. Clearly, our cultural norms have radically changed in that regard, as people remain “children” longer, postponing jobs, marriage, children and other badges of adulthood for several additional years while attending school much longer.
On the other hand, the reaction to the Foley scandal has caught the Zeitgeist in a way that goes well beyond an ordinary sexual harrassment matter. The gay angle has clearly played some part in that, although I’m pretty sure people would still be appalled if a Congressman were coming onto 16-year-old girls who were working for him. His actions seem viscerally wrong in a way that, say, a grown NHL player hitting on Anna Kournikova did not.

Here are some pictures of Alicia Silverstone at her Robert Erdman Photoshoot. I remember this girl in Clueless, she was really cute. Could they have chosen uglier clothes? I think not! How about covering that mole/zit… eh? [heh]
For a 30 year old woman… she looks MUCH older than me! Isn’t that right, Freddy?
Hollywood stunner Alicia Silverstone is becoming as well known for animal cruelty campaigning as she is for acting.
Umm, she’s not really known for acting, is she? She’s known for being gorgeous.
The beauty who found fame as bratty Cher in Clueless, recently won the title of the world’s sexiest vegetarian in a recent poll.
That’s not exactly a big competition, is it? How many sexy vegetarians are there? Most of them look emaciated and ill.
But the star is now looking to break out of her prim and proper appearence recently telling the sun newspaper she wouldn’t rule out joining Pamela Anderson in baring all for anti-fur charity PETA. Stunning Alicia, 29, was quoted as saying “I really respect the people who do it, I think it’s wonderful. “I’d maybe do it, I wouldn’t rule it out but I think so many people are doing it the message is getting across anyway which is fantastic.”
Does she really think people are re-thinking their clothing purchases because a few B-list celebrities are posing naked–but covered up in such a way that one really doesn’t see anything–for a nutjob animal rights organization? Really?
The star animal rights supporter has also gone on record blasting fur-wearing celebrities like Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez. Silverstone says “I hope people look at them and think it looks ugly. I hope they look at them and think, ‘Those poor girls, why do they feel they have to wear fur?’ “When I see someone wearing it I think they must be either really stupid or just evil and don’t care.
Evil? Is it really evil to wear a fur coat? Because, what, animals raised specifically for the purpose of having their skins used for clothing are being killed? It’s not as if they’re skinning them alive.
Ah, well, she’s not exactly known for her deep insights. She’s still a nice looking girl, though, as these photos demonstrate:
The Artist Once Again Known as Prince and actress Kirsten Bell has been named the World’s Sexiest Vegetarians in an unscientific poll conducted by PETA.
Prince has been voted the “world’s sexiest vegetarian” in PETA’s annual online poll, the animal rights group announced Monday. Prince, 47, shares the honor with Kristen Bell, the 25-year-old star of “Veronica Mars,” which is being carried over from UPN to the new CW Network this fall.
A strict vegan, Prince recently wrote in the liner notes of his latest album, “3121,” about the ills behind wool production. He closed the disc with a quote from Mahatma Gandhi: “2 my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being.”
Bell, in a statement, said of her vegetarianism: “I had a hard time disassociating the animals I cuddled with — dogs and cats, for example — from the animals on my plate, and I never really cared for the taste of meat. I always loved my brussels sprouts!”
So, essentially, they’re idiots. Probably comes from not getting enough meat and dairy products.
Runners-up in the poll, which PETA said received over 40,000 votes, include Natalie Portman, Nicollette Sheridan and Joaquin Phoenix. Last year, Coldplay singer Chris Martin and “American Idol” Carrie Underwood were picked as the two “sexiest vegetarians.” Other previous winners include Andre 3000, Tobey Maguire, Josh Hartnett, Alicia Silverstone, Lauren Bush and Shania Twain.
