Let’s take a moment to learn people! [heh]
The Golden Globe Awards are American awards for motion pictures and television programs, given out each year during a formal dinner. Run since 1944 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the awards are a major part of the film industry’s “awards season” which culminates each year with the Oscars. This is particularly true since 1996, when the HFPA signed a new television broadcast contract with NBC (prior to that, they were aired on TBS, but before the existence of TBS, one of the “big three” commercial networks, i.e. CBS, NBC, or ABC, always broadcast the show). The broadcast of the Golden Globe Awards generally ranks as the third most-watched awards show each year, behind only the Oscars and Grammys, and movie studios actively solicit support from HFPA members and mention nominations and awards in their advertisements.
The Golden Globes are awarded early in the year, based on votes from (as of 2005) 86 mostly part-time journalists living in Hollywood and affiliated with media outside of the United States.
Unlike the Academy Awards, for which the eligibility period begins January 1, the eligibility period for the Golden Globe Awards begins October 1.

Ugly Betty, played by America Ferrera, is kicking some TV ass! My youngest daughter latched on to this show and with her being 11… I’m not sure what sort of audience this show has, but it must be fairly decent. FYI, Ugly Betty isn’t really ugly at all; check out the picture.

Following in the footsteps of CBS’ “Jericho” and NBC’s “Heroes,” ABC’s “Ugly Betty” has become the latest freshman series to receive a full-season pick-up.
ABC made the “Ugly Betty” pick-up announcement late Friday afternoon, meaning that Friday the 13th wasn’t so unlucky for executive producer Salma Hayek and not-so-ugly star America Ferrera.
It’s a triumphant twist in the “Ugly Betty” story. For several years, a variety of producers and networks attempted to mount an American version of the popular Colombian telenovela “Yo Soy Betty La Fea.” Different writers attempted to pitch the find the right look, tone and even length for the series.
Before the beginning of the season, ABC shifted “Ugly Betty” from an under-exposed Friday evening time period, to the ultra-competitive 8 p.m. Thursday slot that has killed many a fledgling show. Instead, “Ugly Betty” has averaged more than 15 million viewers per episode, second only to “Survivor” in its time period. In addition, the show has given ABC a 96 percent bump in total viewers and a 92 percent boost among adults 18-49 over the network’s performance in the hour last season.
“In just two weeks ‘Ugly Betty’ has given us an impressive foothold leading into the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ hour on Thursday night,” says ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson. “The show has proven to be competitive in a very strong time period, and we’re thrilled with ‘Ugly Betty’s’ performance.” source

Amber Rose Tamblyn (born May 14, 1983) is an Emmy-nominated American actress and poet, best known for her role on the television series, Joan of Arcadia, and in the 2005 film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Tamblyn was born in Santa Monica, California, the daughter of actor Russ Tamblyn and musician/writer Bonnie Murray. At the age ten, she played Pippi Longstocking at the Santa Monica Alternative School House; her father’s agent, Sharon Debord, was attending as a family friend and ended up convincing her father to allow Tamblyn to go on auditions.
Tamblyn was cast as Emily Bowen (later known as Emily Quartermaine) on the soap opera General Hospital, a role which she played for six years (from 1995 to 2001). She also appeared in the films Rebellious and Johnny Mysto: Boy Wizard (both co-starring her father), as well as in Live Nude Girls (1995) and in the opening scene of the 2002 horror film, The Ring. Tamblyn also made a number of guest appearances on several television shows, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in which she played Janice Penshaw, the best friend of Dawn Summers, as well as Boston Public, CSI: Miami, and Punk’d (after being tricked by Ashton Kutcher or his crew members for losing someone else’s dog).
Tamblyn became well known for playing Joan Girardi, a teenage girl who receives frequent visits from God, on the CBS drama series Joan of Arcadia, a role which earned her a Golden Globe and Emmy nomination; Tamblyn’s father made several appearances on the show, which ran from 2003 to 2005.
Tamblyn’s first major film role was in 2005′s well-reviewed The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, alongside Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera and Blake Lively. She portrayed Tabitha “Tibby” Tomko-Rollins, a girl who intended to become an independent documentary filmmaker, while the rest of her friends – played by Bledel, Ferrera and Lively – leave for the summer, leaving her alone.
Tamblyn’s next major film will be The Grudge 2, a sequel to The Grudge. The film, which also stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, is currently in post-production and will be released on October 13, 2006.
