10 Child Stars Who Died Too Soon

The recent untimely death of Gary Coleman has made CelebBuzz come up with a list of 10 child stars who also died way before their time. I hope Lindsay Lohan is paying attention.

10. Gary Coleman

Gary’s recent death came after he struck his head during a fall. After his successful turn in ‘Diff’rent Strokes,’ Gary’s career was overshadowed by his legal and financial troubles. He was 42.

9. Brad Renfro

While he had a promising career after he appeared in ‘The Client’ when he was barely 13-years-old, his drug addiction overshadowed his talents. In 2008, Brad was found dead in his LA apartment after an apparent heroin overdose.

8. Carl Switzer

Better known as Alfalfa in the “Our Gang” franchise, Carl’s financial troubles got out of hand once he left Hollywood. In 1959, Carl was fatally shot in the groin after he attempted to rough up someone who owed him money. He was 31.

7. Corey Haim

Beloved teen idol Corey battled a massive drug addiction after his career fizzled in the ’90s. Corey passed away in March of this year due to pneumonia complications. He was 38.

6. Dana Plato

Dana’s death often serves as a touchstone for the tragic death’s of other child star who fell from grace. Like Gary, the “Diff’rent Strokes’ star saw her career fizzle after the hit show and she even resorted to doing pornography. In 1999 she committed suicide. She was 34.

5. Brigette Andersen

Like many other child stars on this list, he adorable star of “Savannah Smiles” faced problems with drug and alcohol. After her career completely fizzled, Brigette became more and more addicted to heroin and other drugs. In 1997 she accidentally overdosed. She was 21.

4. Anissa Jones

Pig-tailed Buffy from “Family Affair” saw her career skyrocket thanks to the show but had trouble finding work after the show was canceled. In 1976 she died in a friend’s home, apparently from an accidental overdose. She was 18.

3. Bobby Driscoll

Cutie-pie Bobby was the original Disney star, and he even won a special Oscar for juvenile acting in 1949. After his Disney career, Bobby became immersed in the New York art scene and was a fixture at Andy Warhol’s Factory. In 1968 he was found dead due to a heart failure in an abandoned tenement in the East Village. He was 31.

2. Judy Garland

Screen legend Judy started acting very early in her life but she shot to superstar status when she starred in “The Wizard of Oz” when she was just 16-years-old. Like most child stars, Judy struggled from a massive drug and alcohol addiction and she attempted suicide on many occasions. In 1969 she died from an apparent accidental overdose in her apartment. She was 47.

1. Michael Jackson

The King of Pop got his start as the adorable front-man for The Jackson 5. Eventually Michael achieved international success with his solo career, establishing him as musical legend. Unfortunately, his career was undermined by accusations of pedophilia and financial and legal troubles. In 2009 he died from an apparent prescription drug overdose. He was 50.

This list is missing Judith Barsi, Jonathan Brandis and River Phoenix but I can see why they chose the 10 stars that they did.

Corey Feldman Gets Tattoo Honoring Corey Haim

Corey Feldman wasn’t able to attend the funeral for his old buddy Corey Haim on Tuesday.

Instead, he was getting a tattoo in the late actor’s memory, a balloon-like etching that he says is a copy of one that Haim had. Feldman also had the number “222″ added, a nod to an inside joke with his friend.

The ‘Goonies’ star hit up T-Man Tattoo in Studio City just as family and friends were laying Haim to rest in a Toronto-area chapel. Feldman decided not to go to the service to respect the family’s wishes of avoiding a media spectacle.

T-Man owner Howard T said that he and Feldman are long-time friends and that the actor is actually coming back in today (Wednesday) to have more work done on the tattoo.

“I used to play in his band. I knew he was coming in. I have worked on him before. In fact, he is coming back in again today to get more work done.”

Aside from getting inked, Feldman also took a moment on Tuesday to self-publish an open letter to his fallen friend, calling the loss “so much more painful than I could have ever imagined.”

In other news, the California attorney general’s office said Wednesday that it has arrested a suspect in an alleged prescription drug ring that Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown said provided illegal drugs to Haim.

Funeral for Corey Haim Held Today

Thornhill Memorial Chapel in Toronto was packed with friends and family of Corey Haim today for his funeral. The service was closed to the public, and was described by a mourner as “very sad but with a lot of laughter.”

Notably absent from the service was Haim’s longtime friend Corey Feldman, who posted the following letter to his blog:

Dear Corey.,

This is for you on the day of your funeral. First off I am so sorry I am not there with you today. By that I mean my physical body is not with your physical body. However you know that my heart is right at your side. You also know the only reason I am truly not there is out of respect for your mother and her wishes to minimize the media attention as much as possible. I want your family to have a calm peaceful day. Hopefully we will not see one shot of the funeral on the news. Just know I am at home today projecting positive energy for you and your passing.

I miss you so much already. When I think of something funny I don’t know who to tell it to. I find myself trying to call you but then remember your not there. I think about the new movies we will soon be doing together and then suddenly realise that the dream is over. I always feared this day would come, and often rehearsed how to face it. But once confronted with the reality of it, it’s so much more painful than I could have ever imagined. Nobody will ever understand the brotherhood we shared. Nobody will ever get the inside jokes we told. Nobody will understand the magic of 22/222 . Nobody will ever know how to do the secret Corey handshake. Nobody will ever make me laugh as hard as you did. Nobody will ever make me fight as hard as you did. Nobody will ever challenge me the way you did. Nobody will ever need me the way you did.

My mission in life became saving yours. I never gave up, I tried …I walked away, but I always came back, to let you know I was there. In a dark and lonely world with spiteful angry people we always understood each others pain. I have been so hounded by the media and barraged with condolences since your death that I have not been given my own time to grief. I was still in shock while cameras were chasing me down the street looking for my feelings on the matter. When I did Larry King I could barely form sentences, but knew I had to be strong to send a message.

I never knew your death would have such a huge impact on the world. I learned something Corey, there are a lot of people out there who really love you, and appreciate the joy you have brough tho their hearts. I only wish you could see the way the world is mourning over your absence. I wish you could see how big the story is. I wish you could see your face finally filling the cover of People magazine and Entertainment Weekly! That would have meant so much to you. It is such a shame they all had to wait until you were gone to give you the respect you were due as an actor which is what you truly were. The great Canadian actor Corey Haim! I love you and I will forever keep that ring close to my heart. I will do my very best to help give you a memorial that is a celebration of your life the way you would have wanted it…..with everybody laughing and rocking out!

My heart is so broken and I know there are so many who feel the same way I do. We will remember your spirit and your fans will help me keep your legacy alive.

I pray that you are safe and warm and finally filled with peace.

So yet again, we witness the tragic loss of a young celebrity due to drugs. Rest in Peace, Corey.

Corey Haim Has Been Found Dead

Corey Haim has been found dead in his mothers apartment in Burbank, CA, at 3:00am early Wednesday morning after an apparent drug overdose.

The 80s teen idol, who was just 38, collapsed in front of his mother after he got out of bed at 1:30am she then called 911 and he was rushed to St. Joseph’s hospital in Burbank. He was was pronounced dead at 3:30am.

Police were down called the hospital just before 4am to investigate the death of Haim who has struggled with prescription drug addiction for a few years.

TMZ report that the LAPD found four prescription bottles in the apartment, he had been sick with flu-like symptoms but the medication were nothing to do with his illness. No illicit drugs were found in the apartment.

I hate waking up to news like this, it is very sad that Corey Haim has passed.
