Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim Arrested for DUI

Yet another “Lost” actor has been arrested for drunk driving. This time, it was Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Jin.

quote-picActor Daniel Dae Kim was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Thursday by Honolulu police — the fourth actor on ABC’s “Lost” to run into trouble with the law while filming in Hawaii. Kim, who plays Korean tough guy Jin-Soo Kwon, was taken into custody before 3 a.m. local time and released after posting bail, police said.

Other “Lost” stars facing problems with the police in Hawaii include Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros, whose characters were killed off in 2005 after they both were arrested and pleaded guilty to drunken driving. Rodriguez, who played Ana Lucia, was sentenced to five days in jail and $357 in fines. Watros, who played Libby on the show, had her license suspended for 90 days and paid a $312 fine.

A year ago, Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje, the actor who played “Mr. Eko,” was arrested for a traffic violation and accused of disobeying a police officer and driving without a license. The charges were dropped, but his character also was killed off.

Kim, 38, was born in Busan, South Korea, but grew up in Easton, Pa., and has a masters degree from New York University. On the show, he portrayed a chauvinistic thug who at first was overly protective of his wife, but then began to warm up to other characters on the mysterious island where “Lost” is set.

Expect Jin to die a horrible death soon; the creative staff doesn’t fool around.

And apparently the mysterious force that causes crazy things to happen on the fictional island where the “Lost” crew is stranded has some actual powers. I’ve never seen anything like this with another show.

Why Did Lost Kill Ana Lucia?

As rumored, last night’s “Lost” saw the apparent shooting deaths of the characters played by Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros, who just coincidentally were involved in separate DUI incidents on the same evening. TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello reports that producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse had this planned long before the arrests.

Ausiello: Was it always your intention to use Ana Lucia as a one-season character?

Damon Lindelof: A lot of this is going to sound like spin, so all we can give you is our word that this is exactly what happened. Around late February of last year, we started throwing our respective lines in the water to find the leader of the tail section, who we knew was going to be a Latina woman and who would be conceived as a romantic foil for Jack. We wanted her to be in her mid-thirties and be a detective from the LAPD. So we started putting out feelers unofficially because we wanted her to show up in the penultimate episode of last year. That way, when we started our plan for Season 2, it wouldn’t feel like we had pulled her out of our asses. So, right around that time…

Carlton Cuse: I got a call from Michelle’s agent saying, “Would you guys be interested in Michelle Rodriguez? But she’s really only interested in being on the show for a year.”

Damon: So we basically said, “A year is not necessarily ideal for us, but let’s bring in Michelle and have the meeting.” And she came in and met with Carlton and I and then, in the last 15 minutes, J.J. [Abrams] happened to be across the way doing some Alias stuff and he came over and sat down with her and we just hung out with her and chatted. It turned out that she worked in Hawaii on Blue Crush and knew a lot of people down there. But she made it very clear in that meeting that she’s sort of a nomadic spirit and she did not want to commit to doing any more than [one season]. She wanted to do one kickass arc, as she described it, and we basically started to wrap our brains around her energy and say, “Yeah, we’ll bring you on the show and then we’ll kill you off at the end of the year.” And she was totally cool with it and we were totally cool with it, and we parted ways and talked amongst ourselves. Obviously, the network and the studio normally don’t want to get into a situation where they’re not making multiyear deals, but we assured them that this was in fact the plan, and that even if Michelle was a rocking sensation on the show, we were going to stick to the plan. So they signed off on it and made the deal accordingly.

Ausiello: And then the DUI…

Carlton: Then she got this DUI and Damon and I looked at each other and we were like, “Oh, great. Everybody is going to think we’re killing her off because she got a DUI.” But there really wasn’t anything we could do about that. I mean, the story was set. We had made plans. With Lost, we think it out well ahead of when we actually shoot it. We thought about altering our plan, but [this] was in fact what was best for the show. The fact that she got a DUI would come and go and what would live on would be the show, and our plan was still the best plan for the character. Ironically, we actually thought about changing it the other way around once [the DUI] happened, but it really was the best story. We wanted to tell the best story.

Damon: And obviously that decision was further mitigated by the fact that Libby is shot at the same time as Ana Lucia. Basically then we said, “Oh, s–t. Both Michelle and Cynthia were busted the same night for DUI and we’ve got this story point coming up where they essentially both get shot at the same time, so it’s going to look like this is the Lost producers attempt to say, ‘Don’t drive drunk!’” But as Carlton says, all it created in us was [the thought that], “Maybe we shouldn’t do the plan now, ’cause people are going to think this is a reaction to [the DUIs], as opposed to this [plan] existing prior to that event.”

Carlton: As you’ll see, everything that happens for the rest of the season all sort of falls from this event. And we’re not doing ourselves or the fans of the show or the show itself any service by altering those plans because of Michelle’s extracurricular activities.

Michelle Rodriguez Couch Photo Frankly, I’m not going to miss the Ana Lucia character. The tough Latina bad cop with a chip on her shoulder routine got old very quickly.

Still, Michelle Rodriguez filled out her bikini nicely. And the scene where she seduced Sawyer and had sex with him in order to steal his gun, while incredibly predictable (did any of us other than Sawyer not see that coming?) had the potential to lead to some interesting moments later in the show.

Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros Killed Off on Lost

Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros, who were both arrested for drunk driving separately on a single night, will see their “Lost” characters killed off in a single episode, reports the National Enquirer.

Troubled Lost beauties Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros will go from DUI to DOA as their TV characters are sensationally killed off in a bombshell episode just before the hit show’s season finale.

The futures of Rodriguez and Watros have been in doubt since the pair attracted a storm of publicity with their drunk-driving arrests in December. Now The ENQUIRER can exclusively reveal that ex-cop Ana Lucia (Rodriguez) and therapist Libby (Watros) will wind up goners on the series. A graveside scene in which the pair is laid to rest, with the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 gathered around to pay their respects, has already been filmed. “It’s a done deal — Michelle and Cynthia’s characters will die by the season’s end,” a set insider admitted.

I’m not sure whether to believe this, although it wouldn’t surprise me. Frankly, the only “Tailie” that’s the least bit interesting is the big black guy (Mr. Eko, portrayed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). And, of course, Watros is already cast in a pilot for another show.

Michelle Rodriguez Going to Jail for DUI

Annoying “Lost” hottie Michelle Rodriguez is going to jail, albeit briefly, for driving under the influence.

“Lost” star Michelle Rodriguez has surrendered to begin a five-day jail sentence for drunken driving. Rodriguez, who portrays police officer Ana Lucia, opted for jail time and a $500 fine rather than 240 hours of community service.
“I kind of have to get back to my life, go back to making some money,” Rodriguez said outside the courtroom after pleading guilty to driving under the influence. “It kind of gave me a hard hit. … I’m human.”

The 27-year-old Rodriguez and cast member Cynthia Watros were both charged with drunken driving after they were pulled over Dec. 1 in separate cars within 15 minutes of each other. On Tuesday, the judge gave Rodriguez the option of jail time or community service. Carrying three books and dressed casually in a tank top and sweats, she surrendered to authorities at the Kaneohe District Court later in the day.

Choosing jail over community service was a “personal choice,” said her attorney, Steve Barta. “I would suspect that because she has a hard time even going out for a meal without being intruded upon for an autograph or photograph, it’s really difficult for her to do community service,” he said.

Watros, who plays Libby on the ABC castaway drama, pleaded guilty to drunken driving in January and was fined $312, ordered to undergo an alcohol assessment and 14 hours of counseling. She also had her license suspended for 90 days.

Both Rodriguez and Watros were spotted weaving on a road in Kailua, on the island of Oahu, where “Lost” is filmed. Both failed field sobriety tests. Rodriguez recorded a blood-alcohol level of 0.145 percent, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08. Watros had a blood-alcohol level of 0.10. Soon after, Rodriguez spent two weeks in a rehab clinic, her lawyer said. “She did recognize there was an issue to be dealt with. She, on her own, took care of it,” he said. In 2004, Rodriguez pleaded no contest in Los Angeles to three traffic violations, including drunken driving. She completed a three-month alcohol program and is serving a three-year probation term.

ABC spokesman Jeff Fordis said there would be no disruptions for “Lost.” The season finale is being filmed this week and production is scheduled to be completed by May 5.

Well, at least it won’t affect her television career! And how sad is it when jail is preferable to community service as a punishment? Perhaps they should throw her into a pit and have her beaten by other prisoners? Or lock her in a hatch and have some crazy Iraqi torture her?

Not surprisingly, this story has captured the attention of the Gossip Blogs.

Egotastic’s Phil says her decision to go to jail proves she’s “hard.” Then again, “Of course, with prison comes the image of lonelywomen, locked up behind bars, and the mind wonders… Those showers can be a dangerous place.” He provides several interesting photos of Rodriguez, of which the one below with her cell phone is representative. He also links to some interesting photos of her in a bikini from his archives wherein she is “hot but scary.” In the one I borrow below in the spirit of fair use, she is pouring water on Evangeline Lilly, similarly bikinied.

The Superficial agrees, “It makes sense she would choose jail over community service since she always looks like she just got ouf of prison anyway. You can’t look the way she looks and not enjoy the lesbian prison sex. Science won’t allow it.”

Todd of IDontLikeYouinThatWay wishes to disabuse readers of prison sex fantasies, however.

[I]f any of you guys have already pulled your pants down with fantasies of a 6 foot tall redhead with D-cups in a cutoff prison shirt and high heels, staring approvingly as other inmates strip and oil up the new meat for their “initiation,” please remember that Rodriguez might be the sexiest thing in there. And if that sounded like a compliment, maybe I wrote it wrong.

He also has some Rodriguez photos, none of which are steal-worthy.

Mac Stansbury quips, “I can kind of respect a person for choosing to get it over quick, in jail, rather than have to spend what would amount to a month in Hawaii. Nobody deserves that kind cruel and unusual punishment.” He also links to video footage from Rodriguez’ arrest.

Miu von Furstenberg is being silent about lesbian prison sex in honor of, oddly enough, lesbians.

Cynthia Watros Stars in Pilot, “Lost” Future in Jeopardy

Cynthia Watros, who plays Libby on ABC’s hit “Lost,” is starring in a pilot for another show. Not surprisingly, this is leading to speculation that her “Lost” character will be killed off. E! Online’s Gina Serpe reports,

Try as the Lost writers might to keep a lid on series-shifting spoilers, when one of its stars is tapped to join another TV show, it would seem that that person’s fate on the island is pretty much sealed.

[...]

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cynthia Watros, who plays Hurley’s love interest, Libby, has been cast in a CBS comedy pilot, calling into severe question her chances of making it out of Lost’s second season alive. Watros has signed on to star opposite Love Monkey’s Tom Cavanagh in the sitcom My Ex-Life, centering on a divorced couple turned best buds who are sharing custody of their children. The show is aiming for a slot on CBS’ fall schedule, which will be announced next month.

In what appears to be attempt to minimize revealing Lost plot points, the Reporter notes that Watros has committed to be a guest star and not a regular on the show. However, with her character being one of the two divorced parents in My Ex-Life, it seems that the guest star line is just a smoke screen.

Per usual, Lost producers aren’t talking. They’ve already killed one regular this season–Shannon (Maggie Grace) was mistakenly gunned down by Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez)–but with tension mounting between the so-called Lostaways and the Others, it would be surprising if there wasn’t at least one more grave to be dug on the island.

Watros is one of three full-time cast members to have joined Lost this season, along with Rodriguez and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Mr. Eko). The three were among the “Tailies,” those who were in the rear of the plane and survived on the other side of the island.

Of course, “Lost” is an ensemble show. Several characters, notably middle aged black woman Rose, have been absent from several episodes in a row. Given the success rate of pilots, there’s no real reason to kill Libby unless the show takes off.

Not that it would much matter. Hers is perhaps the least interesting of the recurring characters on the show. And, while pretty enough, easily the least hot of the female stars.
