Ryan O’Neal’s Son Ordered to Rehab

What Redmond O’Neal called a “major misunderstanding” is starting to make a little more sense.

The 23-year-old son of Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett, who was arrested along with his dad last month on suspicion of methamphetamine possession, was ordered into a two-week treatment program Wednesday after admitting that he had relapsed.

“You’re a stand-up guy to come here and deal with your problem,” Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott Millington told Redmond, who also checked into rehab in 2004 to treat a heroin addiction. “I want you to stay clean…You better stay clean or the hammer is going to fall.”

An attorney for the O’Neals didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

No criminal charges have been filed against either Redmond or his dad in connection with their Sept. 17 bust at the elder O’Neal’s Malibu home during a routine probation checkup. Officers allegedly found Redmond to be in possession of what looked like meth, as well as a small vial of the stuff in his father’s bedroom.

At the time of their arrest, Redmond was about two months into a three-year probation sentence for DUI and possessing heroin and crystal meth.

Ryan O’Neal has maintained his innocence in the affair, his lawyer telling reporters that his client would no doubt be vindicated.

“Those were not Ryan’s drugs, he doesn’t use drugs, and has nothing to do with them,” attorney Mark Werksman said. “It’s a dangerous assumption for deputies to have arrested Ryan just because he was in proximity to the drugs.”

Redmond, meanwhile, characterized the situation as a “major misunderstanding. “Life goes on, you know,” he told a pack of paparazzi who followed him home from a market the day after his arrest. “It’s all I have for you, really…If I knew more, I’d tell you more.”

L.A. Area Hospitals Breach Celebrity Privacy

Feds probing the alleged sale of cancer-stricken Farrah Fawcett’s medical records to The National Enquirer could find a long mole tunnel between the hospitals and the tabloids.

Los Angeles Hospitals Breach Celebrity Privacy - Photo

Daily News reports,

Former UCLA Medical Center staffer Lawanda Jackson was indicted on April 9 after allegedly leaking private info about Fawcett, Maria Shriver and 60 other patients. Now vets at the ‘bloids are wondering how long it will be before other health professionals and reporters are drawn into the investigation.

Staffers at L.A. hospitals favored by celebs have been on the payroll of the supermarket weeklies for years, based on transcripts we’ve obtained of taped conversations among dirt-diggers at Globe magazine.

The recordings, made by former Globe managing editor Jim Mitteager, capture him talking with his reporters and sources about stars who allegedly have undergone cosmetic surgery and abortions, as well as been treated for mental illness, bulimia and AIDS.

Among the celebs mentioned in the conversations are Tom Cruise, Jessica Lange, Liz Taylor, Billy Crystal, Kelsey Grammer, Magic Johnson, Roseanne Barr, Al Pacino, Paula Abdul, Frank Zappa and Vanna White.

Recorded between 1992 and 1993, the tapes suggest the impunity with which hospital workers trafficked in sensitive information.

One reporter is heard telling Mitteager that, “If Liz (Taylor) is in St. John’s Hospital,” his source there will know it. “She takes a special delight on getting s? on Liz,” says the reporter. “She has access to the computer and talks to orderlies.”

On another tape, Mitteager contends that a now-deceased TV actor “has got AIDS. The people who want to sell the story have physical proof. They want $4,000. ? They want to move fast because it’s Christmastime and they want to get paid.”

Equally impatient is the husband of a nurse, who asks if he can get “some good-faith money” for his tip. Mitteager says he’ll pay only “if we run the story.”

Mitteager bequeathed the tapes to private investigator Paul Barresi, who has offered to cooperate with prosecutors and hospital officials.

“I remember the gleeful reaction from a Globe senior editor to the news that Dinah Shore had been diagnosed with cancer,” Barresi tells us. “It made my skin crawl. Nothing has changed inside the tabs.”

A spokesman for American Media Inc., which bought The Globe in 2000, said the legality of the dealings before then “are not our responsibility.” The rep declined to comment on the current Enquirer case.

A lawyer for several celebs mentioned on the recordings told us he would ask his clients if they want to pursue legal action. “The question is whether you can sue on something that happened 15 years ago,” the attorney added. “Also, how reliable is the information the reporters are talking about.”

Publicist Stan Rosenfield, whose clients include Grammer, Robert De Niro and George Clooney, said: “It’s alarming that this criminal activity could go on so long without being detected.”

Man that’s horrible, a hospital selling private medical records — I would be so pissed off!

See the parts bolded above? How much do you want to bet, the mental patient was Tom Cruise?

Farrah Fawcett in Germany for Cancer Treatment

1970s sex symbol Farrah Fawcett is in Germany seeking a miracle cancer cure.

quote-pic Farrah Fawcett flew to Germany, where doctors were making a desperate attempt to stop the spread of her cancer, the Enquirer has learned. And longtime love Ryan O’Neal has been by her side every step of the way.

Farrah Fawcett in Germany for Cancer Treatment Photo “Farrah heard about a revolutionary new treatment being used by a top oncologist in Stuttgart and flew there May 31 with Ryan,” revealed a source. “She was in a hospital, and Ryan was at her bedside, holding her hand and cheering her on. She was told the treatments would take three weeks. “Farrah views this as a good chance to battle her returning cancer after doctors found more malignant polyps in her rectal area, which had spread to near her ovaries. “She figures the doctors in L.A. gave it their best shot, so with hopes high she flew to Europe.”

A friend of the 60-year-old “Charlie’s Angels” star learned of the new treatment on the Internet and informed her. Farrah has been rocked by the side effects of radiation and chemo treatments, and when doctors decided on another grueling round, the actress decided to see German doctors instead. The determined star once again vows: “I’m going to beat this!”

I hope she does.

Ryan O’Neal Arrested After Fight With Son

Actor Ryan O’Neal was arrested in his Malibu home on assault and firearms charges after a fight with his 42-year-old son Griffin, police said Sunday.

Ryan O'Neal - Arrested - PICSheriff’s deputies and paramedics went to his house at 12:30 a.m. Saturday responding to a call about a suspected battery, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Benedict.

“Deputies determined that Mr. Griffin O’Neal was assaulted by his father during a family dispute,” said Benedict.

No details of the dispute were released, and no injuries were immediately reported. The arrest was first reported by TMZ.com.

The fight came just a day after the family received good news: On Friday, actress Farrah Fawcett, who was the longtime girlfriend of Ryan O’Neal and the mother of Griffin’s half-brother Redmond, announced she was cancer free after a fight with anal cancer.

The elder O’Neal, 65, was booked at the Malibu-Lost Hills sheriff’s station on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm, said Benedict.

O’Neal was released at 5:30 a.m. Saturday after posting $50,000 bond.

Dr. Gary Gitnick, Fawcett’s lead physician at the University of California, Los Angeles, said the actress “has had a full and complete response to treatment.”

“Her prognosis is excellent,” he said.

The former “Charlie’s Angel” star said she was “deeply grateful” to her doctors and her family and friends “who have sustained me as I battled this terrible disease.”

“This is an extraordinarily happy day for me and my family,” she said in a statement. “I hope that my news might offer some level of inspiration to others who unfortunately must continue to fight the disease.”

Fawcett planned to celebrate her birthday Friday with family and friends, Pingel said, and expects to return to work “in the next month or two.”

Fawcett did not disclose the type of cancer she was treated for. Her ex, Ryan O’Neal, told People Magazine she was being treated for anal cancer.
