Suge Knight Arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Former Death Row Records kingpin Marion “Suge” Knight was arrested early this morning after allegedly pulling a pistol during a robbery in South Los Angeles.

Suge, 45, was pulled over around 12:30 am in his white Escalade and shuffled downtown. He was also charged with driving on a suspended license. He has been released on a $65,000 bond.

Knight was once the head of Death Row Records, the West Coast powerhouse rap label that featured artists such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur. Tupac’s death, Suge’s implication in the murder of The Notorious B.I.G. and some pretty serious in-fighting all lead to the label’s decline. Knight sold his share of the company after filing bankruptcy in 2006.

This arrest is nothing new to Suge Knight, who was arrested in 1992 for assault and was given seven years probation, he violated that probation in 1997 and was sentenced to nine years, of which he served four. In 2003 he was sent back to jail for punching a parking lot attendant. Knight was also arrested in August 2008 on drug and assault charges stemming from an incident with his girlfriend, but he was later cleared of all related charges. In February 2009, Suge was seriously beaten (read: got his ass kicked) at an NBA All-Star game by a dude claiming to be the business manager of Akon. In March Akon’s producer Noel “Detail” Fisher was robbed as rumored retribution. Suge Knight was implicated in the robbery, but was never charged.

Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty; Going to Prison

Lil’ Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession on Thursday, a move that will likely land the Grammy-winning star in jail for a year. He previously had pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession charges that carried at least 3½ years in prison. His trial had been due to start Jan. 20.

Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty; Going to Jail

Police pulled over Wayne’s tour bus in Columbus Circle (near NYC’s Central Park) on July 22, 2007. They said they had seen and smelled marijuana smoke wafting out the door before the bus left a concert venue minutes earlier. Police said that as an officer approached, the rapper (real name Wayne Carter) tossed away a Louis Vuitton bag containing a gun.

Prosecutors said trace amounts of DNA found on the loaded gun connected it to Wayne. His defense lawyer said the gun wasn’t his, and that there were flaws in the way the evidence was tested.

The defense also disputed the whole premise used by officers to search the bus (pot smoke).

According to the AP, Wayne acted politely in court when acknowledging that he had a .40 caliber semi-automatic gun on the bus.

Lil’ Wayne’s trouble with the law doesn’t end here, though. He is also scheduled for trial in Arizona on felony drug possession and weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.
