The Weekend Box Office Results 3/8/09

Watchmen” really nailed the box office this weekend, knocking “Madea Goes To Jail” back in the clink.

Ending Madea’s two weekend long reign, “Watchmen” brought in a cool $55,655,000, leaving nothing but crumbs for the rest of the movies out.

Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail” brought in $8,800,000 leaving a huge gap between first and second place in the box office. In third place was “Taken” with $7,450,000. Fourth place belonged to “Slumdog Millionaire“, which is in it’s 17th week on the charts, with $6,925,000. In fifth place is “Paul Blart: Mall Cop“, which brought in $4,200,000.

Via IMDB, here is their synopsis of the movie:

“Watchmen” is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity… but who is watching the Watchmen?”

I don’t know much about superhero movies, but I’d watch this for Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He’s hot.

Taken” has overtaken the box office crown and swiped the weekend sales away from “Paul Blart: Mall Cop“.

Taken” drew in $24,65,000 in this weekend’s box office, leaving the second spot for Paul Blart. Also new in the theaters is “The Uninvited“, which took third place in it’s first week. “Hotel For Dogs” is in it’s third week and landed the fourth spot, leaving the fifth spot for Clint Eastwood’s flick, “Gran Torino“.

Taken” stars Liam Neeson as Bryan, an ex-CIA spy and father of kidnapping victim, Kim. Kim and her friend Amanda take a trip to Europe where Amanda gets kidnapped, and subsequently, so does Kim. Amanda dies from a heroin overdose and Kim gets sold into sex slavery.

Bryan tells the kidnappers that if they let his daughter go, he won’t track them down and kill them. Things apparently don’t go as planned, and you can see where this is going.

The Weekend Box Office Results – 1/25/09

Paul Blart: Mall Cop” is in the lead again for this weekend’s box office results. If you thought that last week’s box office topple was amazing, then the second time around leaves us in utter shock.

After “Paul Blart: Mall Cop“, came Rhona Mitra and Kate Beckinsale’s new movie, “Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans“.

Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans” is the prequel story behind the Underworld franchise. The new movie details the feud between the aristocratic vampires and their one-time slaves, the Lycans.

In the Dark Ages, a Lycan named Lucian rose up as the leader of the werewolves who rallied against Viktor, the king of the vampires who enslaved them.

The Weekend Box Office Results – 1/18/09

Paul Blart: Mall Cop” is surprisingly in the lead for this weekend’s box office results. I’m very surprised that people came out in droves to see Kevin James’ latest flick.

The funny movie took over the box office and knocked out Clint Eastwood’s movie, “Gran Torino” from the top slot.

Paul Blart works as a security guard at a New Jersey mall and has applied for years to become a cop, but was denied due to his weight. One day, a gang of organized criminals take hostages in the mall and he becomes the eyes and ears of the police force, inside the mall.

So he basically has to pull a “Die Hard” and take out the criminals on his own.
