Vanessa L. Williams (Ugly Betty) took off her clothes for May’s issue of Allure magazine, the one with Lindsay Lohan on its cover, along with four other female celebrities.
Vanessa, Kristin Chenoweth (The West Wing), Carla Gugino (Night at the Museum) and Marley Shelton (Grindhouse) decided to pose nude for Allure’s “Look Better Naked” pictorial by Michael Thompson.
All celebs are posing completely naked but unfortunately they are hiding their private parts.

In an ironic twist, “Grey’s Anatomy” has won an award for its positive portrayal of homosexuals.
“Grey’s Anatomy,” the ABC hit show whose lead actor was criticized for using an anti-gay slur, was awarded outstanding individual episode Saturday by an organization that monitors depictions of gays and lesbians in the media. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation awarded “Grey’s Anatomy” for the episode “Where the Boys Are.”
The show got unwanted attention last year when actor Isaiah Washington used a slur to talk about a castmate in an on-set dustup. He later apologized and sought counseling.
“Little Miss Sunshine” won outstanding film in the wide release category, while “Ugly Betty” won for outstanding television comedy series and “Brothers & Sisters” took home the outstanding drama series award.
La Opinion newspaper was awarded outstanding Spanish-language newspaper for overall coverage. The Vanguard Award went to actress Jennifer Aniston for her efforts to increase visibility and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Tennis great Martina Navratilova was given the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, in honor of the late casting director who fought homophobia in the entertainment industry.
The 18th annual GLAAD Media Awards — consisting of 42 categories — are split into four ceremonies, held in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and San Francisco in March, April and May. The awards “recognize and honor mainstream media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender … community and the issues that affect their lives.”
Here’s a synopsis of “Where the Boys Are” from ABC’s official Episode Guide:
Derek decides to go camping, so he invites Burke and somehow all the men of Seattle Grace, except for Mark, tag along. When Richard doesn’t have a tent to camp in, he asks Joe and his friend Walter, if he can sleep in their tent but the realizes that Joe and Walter are a couple.
While fishing, Joe tells Richard they’re thinking about having children and Richard says he and Adele never did because she didn’t want raise them alone since he was always at the hospital Joe says Walter says the same thing, since he’s always at the bar, but that he’ll do whatever it takes to keep Walter.
Walter (Jack Yang) and Joe (Steven W. Bailey) are pictured above. It was actually a pretty good episode. I wonder, though, whether the Isaiah Washington controversy wasn’t a major reason for selecting it. Certainly, there are no shortage of positive portrayals of gays, hermaphrodites, and even transgenders on television these days.

America Ferrera, star of the popular show (which I’ve never actually seen) “Ugly Betty” gets the cover and a photo shoot in something called “W” magazine, which I’ve never heard of.
Here’s an excerpt from the article:
America Ferrera‘s first real showbiz experience was something of a letdown. At 16, after a decade of acting in school plays and drifting off each night to Hollywood dreams, she was cast in a Disney Channel movie about a junior high school dance team with the somewhat hilarious name of Gotta Kick It Up. At first, she was thrilled. “I love to dance, so I couldn’t believe I was getting paid to just dance all day. And there were four other girls in the cast, so that was fun. And you know the way you think when you’re a teenager: Disney Channel today, Oscars tomorrow!” she says with a laugh. But a few weeks into filming, she had what she describes as “a mini nervous breakdown.” “I just felt really empty,” she says. “I had achieved my dream, and it wasn’t totally fulfilling. I still had school problems, and I still had boy problems. My life was still my life. I guess I had been waiting to be turned into a swan.”

Betty Suarez—the lead character in television’s Ugly Betty—is a style-challenged young Latina from Queens who lands a job as assistant to the editor in chief of a fashion magazine. The show is based on a Colombian telenovela called Yo Soy Betty, la Fea, which was a cultural phenomenon in Latin America and was adapted for markets around the world—everywhere from Israel to India—before being imported to the U.S. for the fall 2006 season. American audiences fell for the series almost immediately. Drawing roughly 14 million viewers a week, the show dominates its competitive Thursday night time slot and ranks as the most watched newcomer of the season. In January Ugly Betty won the Golden Globe for best TV comedy or musical series, and Ferrera herself—who dons a wig, fake brows and snap-on faux braces for her role—walked away with the statuette for best actress, beating out such veterans as Felicity Huffman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Two weeks later she took home a SAG award.
According to critics and those who work with Ferrera on Ugly Betty, such accolades were well deserved. “She’s one of the most charismatic people I’ve ever met,” says Salma Hayek, an executive producer of the show. “She’s also authentic. That’s a rare characteristic nowadays, and that’s why people are falling in love with her. I knew the minute that I saw her that she was a superstar.”

What’s most interesting about America-as-Betty is the breadth of her appeal. The character has struck a chord with a remarkably diverse collection of fans— 12-year-old girls, gay men, Latinas, the fashion crowd—all of whom seem to want to adopt her as their mascot. The day after the Globes, for example, California Congresswoman Hilda Solis took to the floor of the House to, in her words, “commend America and everyone involved in Ugly Betty for helping to break down stereotypes and provide a role model for young Latinas.” A few months later, Out magazine put the cast on its cover under a headline that read, HOW UGLY BETTY BECAME THE GAYEST, BEST SHOW ON TV. In the accompanying story, Ferrera recounted the surreal experience of attending the West Hollywood Halloween parade—a big night for L.A.’s gay community—and seeing scores of guys dressed up as Betty. “Anyone who’s ever felt like an outsider can see themselves in her and feel represented,” she says. “And who hasn’t, at some point in their life, felt like they didn’t belong?”
Some more photos from the shoot:

A behind-the-scenes video
The article and photo spread is called “Hot Betty” as a play on “Ugly Betty.” I’d say it was more like “Not All That Bad Looking Betty” or “Kinda Fugly for Hollywood But She’d Do in a Pinch Betty.”
MollyGood disagrees saying it should be “Slightly Chubby but Still Strikingly Beautiful Betty.” Usually, the gossip blogs are way too hard on really hot babes. Here, though, I think they’re grading on a curve because of the name of the show.

Salma Hayek – Ugly Betty’s executive producer – makes a guest-starring turn on the hit show.
Thursday, Nov. 2: As the executive producer of the ABC show Ugly Betty, Salma Hayek has a major hit on her hands. Now the actress, who had a cameo as a character in the telenovela within the comedy, gets to work her magic in front of the camera when she guest stars as a new love interest for Betty’s (America Ferrera) playboy boss (Eric Mabius).

Ugly Betty, played by America Ferrera, is kicking some TV ass! My youngest daughter latched on to this show and with her being 11… I’m not sure what sort of audience this show has, but it must be fairly decent. FYI, Ugly Betty isn’t really ugly at all; check out the picture.

Following in the footsteps of CBS’ “Jericho” and NBC’s “Heroes,” ABC’s “Ugly Betty” has become the latest freshman series to receive a full-season pick-up.
ABC made the “Ugly Betty” pick-up announcement late Friday afternoon, meaning that Friday the 13th wasn’t so unlucky for executive producer Salma Hayek and not-so-ugly star America Ferrera.
It’s a triumphant twist in the “Ugly Betty” story. For several years, a variety of producers and networks attempted to mount an American version of the popular Colombian telenovela “Yo Soy Betty La Fea.” Different writers attempted to pitch the find the right look, tone and even length for the series.
Before the beginning of the season, ABC shifted “Ugly Betty” from an under-exposed Friday evening time period, to the ultra-competitive 8 p.m. Thursday slot that has killed many a fledgling show. Instead, “Ugly Betty” has averaged more than 15 million viewers per episode, second only to “Survivor” in its time period. In addition, the show has given ABC a 96 percent bump in total viewers and a 92 percent boost among adults 18-49 over the network’s performance in the hour last season.
“In just two weeks ‘Ugly Betty’ has given us an impressive foothold leading into the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ hour on Thursday night,” says ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson. “The show has proven to be competitive in a very strong time period, and we’re thrilled with ‘Ugly Betty’s’ performance.” source
